Honolulu -- Honolulu-based PacRim Marketing Group, Inc. and Diamond Big Corporation, publisher of the annual Chikyu no Arukikata Hawaii Globetrotter Travel Guide Book for the Japanese market, have published the results of their first annual "Onolicious Awards." The awards were given to Honolulu restaurants based on responses from 1,604 Japanese answering an on-line questionnaire between November 2002 and March 2003. Results appearing in the May issue of the Hawaii Globetrotter Travel Guide Book show that Eggs 'n Things is the most popular restaurant, overall, amongst survey respondents. Yummy Korean Bar-B-Q came in second. Also in the top ten were: Kua Aina Sandwich Shop, Perry's Smorgy, Alan Wong's Restaurant, Mariposa, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, The Shore Bird, Tanaka of Tokyo, and Roy's Restaurant. Survey respondents were able to select from a list of two hundred restaurants (or write in a restaurant name) and then vote for one in each of five themes: "Most Delicious;" "Great for Families;" "Great Place for Lunch;" "I Want to Go on My Next Visit;" and "Places I Enjoyed on My Last Visit to Oahu." Points were tallied across all categories to create the "Best Ten." The survey questionnaire, developed by Diamond Big, was posted on the Arukikata web site www.arukikata.co.jp/index.html and promoted on the Hawaii site: www.hawaii-arukikata.com . Hawaii-Arukikata.com is the largest and most popular commercial Japanese web site on Hawaii, viewed by nearly 10,000 people in Japan each day and consistently ranked in the top listings for the largest search engines on Hawaii in Japanese, including Google and Yahoo! Japan. Of the survey respondents, 482 were men and 1,122 were women. The average age for the male respondents was 40.84 years. The average age for the women was 34.16. The median number of visits to Hawaii for all respondents was two -- but 123 people said they had been to Hawaii ten times, while 121 people said they had been to Hawaii more than fifteen times! Sixty-six percent of all respondents had visited Hawaii in the last year. This is the first year that Diamond Big Corporation and PacRim Marketing Group, Inc. have created the "Onolicious Awards." The results also appear in the summer issue of the Waikiki/Oahu Mook, a biannual, Japanese language magazine/book that was published in June. PacRim Marketing Group conducts on-line surveys on its Hawaii-Arukikata web site on a regular basis to measure attitudes, likes, and dislikes of Japanese travelers, specifically those planning to visit Hawaii.
